From Papier-Mâché to Poetry: Celebrating Student Voices

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve just wrapped up my second round of teaching Poetic Sculpture as a teaching artist in collaboration with Art 180! This course has been an inspiring blend of form and language—where teens explored sculpture through papier-mâché mask making and gave those forms voice through their original poetry.

To celebrate their creativity, I curated a final visual exhibition that combined the masks with printouts of each student’s words, allowing their art and poetry to stand side by side. The result was a vibrant showcase of imagination, honesty, and self-expression.

I’m incredibly proud of the work these young artists accomplished and grateful to have guided them through this journey of shaping both sculpture and story.
